The benefits of facial massage are not limited to your skin. It has great benefits for your overall health too. Facial massages are not a new technique or phenomenon. They have existed for a long, long time.
Facial massages are a significant part of any self care routine. They are important, they are necessary and they come with several benefits for your skin and health. Facial massages are not only practiced to clean your skin but also to calm and soothe your facial muscles. They have a relaxing and rejuvenating effect on the skin. This enhances your looks and also helps you to feel better.
You can use different products like lotions, oils, cleansing balms, or tools like a face roller or flat gua sha to do your face massages. Facial massages aren’t new. They are ancient therapeutic practices that have been used to heal and relax people for thousands of years. Similar to a shoulder rub or back massage, facial massage has got many other health benefits in addition to the usual skin benefits. Today, I am highlighting the benefits of facial massage in the blog. Let’s go:
8 Surprising Benefits of Facial massage you must know
1. Facial Massages Are a Great Stress Buster
The hectic lifestyle has got us under its feet today. No matter how much we try to cope, the work-life balance is constantly shaken somehow. Every day stress, anxiety, and headaches have become so normal that until it’s extreme, it’s fine.
Facial massages are a good way to burst out all your stress. Your face has certain pressure points, which ease the tension and helps you to feel relaxed. Using a warm or cold towel after or before the massage always adds to the feeling of ease.
2. Helps in Detoxification of the Skin
Daily commutes and pollution are very unignored parts of our lives. The dirt settles on the skin making it look dull and unhealthy. This attracts extra oil, whiteheads, blackheads, and other pollutants to the skin.
A facial massage helps you clean your skin that unclogs the pores by getting rid of all the dirt and impurities that are present in the skin. Using a warm towel on the face before the massage helps to soften the skin and loosen the blackhead. This gets you rid of all the dirt on the face.
3. Treats Dark Circles and Uneven Pigmentation
Another byproduct of constant stress and less sleep is dark circles. The under-eye bags are a great contributor to a lack of confidence in self appearance. The major cause of these dark circles is water retention in the skin around the eyes. A gentle facial massage around the eye can help in lightening them.
Uneven pigmentation occurs due to impurities and lower levels of collagen. However, constant exposure to the sun is also a major cause. A facial massage is beneficial because it helps remove the dead layers of the skin and restores its moisture by increasing the level of collagen. Also, it increases the blood flow which helps in removing toxins and leaves an even-toned skin.
4. Facial Massages Help in Treating Acne
Acne is a serious skin problem for most people. The causes vary from the food we eat to pollution to our lifestyle altogether. It happens due to the blockage of hair follicles with skin oils and dead skin cells. Acne leads to pimples and pimples sometimes lead to acne scars.
Facial massages help treat acne and acne scars when done with natural oils. This flushes out the toxins and cleanses the pores which keep acne away. Also, regular massaging cleans the skin’s texture and complexion.
5. Reduces Broken Capillaries
Your skin has tiny vessels under it. They are delicate and easy to break. These dilated and broken capillaries lead to form red spots on the face, more like bruises. It is difficult to get rid of these broken capillaries and thus you should avoid getting them in the first place.
Facial massages are a great way to do that. Massaging your face at night with almond oil rich in Vitamin E fulfills the purpose rightfully.
6. Treats Wrinkles and Dryness of Skin
Wrinkles and dryness of the skin are two more serious skin issues that people face. While wrinkles and fine lines are a result of age and sometimes fatigue as well, dry skin is the result of no moisture in the skin.
Facial massage aids in both situations. Facial massage tones the muscles and stimulates the production of collagen to naturally slow wrinkles. When done with a good moisturizer, it helps in restoring the moisture of the skin by regulating the blood flow and making the face look as fresh as ever.
7. Facial Massage Allows the Face Products to Absorb Better
A facial massage is the final step of a skincare routine. Incorporating it is always a good idea. It increases the effectiveness of the face products that we use. Be that a face serum, moisturizer, or anything else, a facial massage allows the skin to absorb these products much better.
Massaging in circular or tapping motions is always recommended for increased effectiveness.
8. An Alternate Approach to Blocked Sinus
Blocked sinuses are a major pain. Common colds and allergies are some of the most common causes of blocked sinuses. Along with nasal congestion, it sometimes leads to headaches and even eye irritation.
A facial massage is an alternative approach to the blocked sinuses. A 20 minutes massage focusing on the nasal area helps to unclog the nose. Start your massage from the bridge of your nose and apply little pressure using small outward circular strokes.
How to enjoy the benefits of facial massage at home?
Now that you have learned the benefits of facial massage, you might want to give it a try at home. Facial massages are an important part of a skincare routine. Whether you have an extensive skincare ritual or something as simple as the four basic steps of cleansing, exfoliating, facial, and a mask, massages are a significant step in both.
You can either invest in skincare products or make your facial massage cream with the ingredients in your kitchen.
This is my go-to DIY Facial Massage Cream: 1 Tablespoon of Rice Flour + 1 Tablespoon of Corn Flour + 1 Tablespoon of Curd.
Blend the ingredients well and apply the mixture to your face. Now you want to massage your face with clean fingers. Start by gently moving your fingers from the center of your face toward your ears. Do this for 5 to 10 minutes and wash the excess with clean water. This is how I do it.
On days when I don’t feel like indulging in my DIY process, I enjoy the benefits of facial massage with my facial kit that comes with a facial tool. It is super easy to use and takes away all the hassle.
Both of these are simple ways how I prefer to do my facial massage without digging a hole in my pocket. Do let me know if you try any of them.
Conclusion
The benefits of facial massage have been around ever since we understood skincare. It all comes down to giving yourself the self care you deserve. Along with all the above-mentioned benefits, facial massage also improves the texture and complexion of your skin by giving you glowing skin.
