I started reading when I began my career as a blogger and freelance writer back in 2020. Since then, I have read some true gems that have kept the roots for me to think, act and become more confident. 1. How to win friends and influence people by Dale Carnegie 

This is one of the classics from my collection. This was recommended to me by my younger brother. The book is said to be one of the most influential books ever.

If you feel socially awkward (like me), if you find it hard to start conversations with people, or if you are just an introvert who prefers to stay away from people, this book is for you.

Here’s the truth of life, if you are introverted, even a remote working career like being a freelance writer, requires you to interact with people. The only difference is you do it virtually.

Thus, you must read this book not just for your future but for your present too. As a student, team-based tasks and group discussions in classrooms require a lot of patience to deal with people. So, don’t miss this book if you want to be a leader in your field of work.

 

2. Atomic Habits by James Clear 

As the name suggests, this book is all about the notion that “small steps lead to bigger changes”. And trust me, you need to follow this principle in every stage of your life. It’s just that it becomes a little more important as a student. 

Because our education system is practically built on this very principle. Remember, how you read your book chapter by chapter and then all of it comes together in the final exam? 

James Clear, in his bestselling book, talks about the significance of small, daily habits that can change the direction of your life. It helps you to understand the power of momentum which is built when you do one thing even for 10 minutes every day. 

The book presents the scientific and logical approach to understanding how tiny habits impact our lives and how developing a few of these amplifies our positive personality traits for good. Read this book if you feel too scared to bring change to your lifestyle. This book will teach you how to do it, one day at a time.

 

3. Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl

The only thought I had after reading this book was my utmost respect and honor for the writer. It’s remarkable how the writer finds positivity and hope in miserable situations as described in this book. 

As a student, you might have a long list of complaints from your life. We all do. That time of life screams demands and complaints. That’s what human nature does. But this book will not just make you appreciate your life, it will also make you feel grateful for it. 

The writer takes you on his journey of being a prisoner in the Nazi concentration camps during World War II. The book describes the incidents from the perspectives of a fellow prisoner and a psychiatrist (the author himself). Throughout the book, Victor Frankl emphasizes the importance of finding a purpose in life. 

He focuses on how there is always light at the end of the tunnel. He teaches us how our purpose can defy all the hardships in life and keep us moving forward.

Developing a reading habit can do wonders for your personality. And the impact amplifies when you get into reading self-improvement, self-help, and personal growth books. 

I know there’s a lot of hype on the internet regarding this space of life. But ultimately it’s all worth it. Because regular reading conditions your brain and nourishes the way you think about life. 

You don’t have to turn into a bibliophile overnight. I am not a bibliophile even after being a reader for more than a year. I do it for both personal and professional reasons. Being a writer demands you to be a reader too. And, I happen to love both. 

But, being a student, you can take things slowly and gradually. So, keep the target of reading at least one self-improvement book every two to three months.
