6 Easy Self Improvement Books for Beginners to Help You Become a Reader

Before I share my best beginner-friendly self improvement books, let’s understand why should you even read at all.

Why should you read Self Improvement books?

Self Improvement or self-help books takes you on the journey to grow beyond your comfort zone. They unlock paths for you that have been around you yet missing from your sight. Usually, we are so occupied with our daily routine that we forget to give time to ourselves.

Thus, reading these books becomes important because they open pathways that help you become a better version of yourself. They let you perform a self-analysis and bring changes in your lifestyle to learn better ways of living.

Do Self Improvement books work?

The answer to this question is both yes and no. Also, it is very subjective. Reading books, watching movies, signing up for a coaching program, or enrolling yourself in a workshop; all of these won’t work and improve you if all you do is perform their teaching during that period.

The influence and results of such activities are shown when you implement their learnings in your life after their existing phase. Abiding by the teaching only while you are reading the book is not going to be as effective as following those lessons and continuing them all along.

Hence, it is dependent on your seriousness towards your self-improvement journey.

Here are 6 Self-Improvement Books you must read

1. Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life by Francesc Miralles and Hector Garcia

This was the book that started my self-improvement journey as a writer and a reader. The word Ikigai means your “reason for being”. The book revolves around finding a purpose in your life and living a life that’s driven to fulfill your purpose with the simplest living secrets of the Japanese people.

it is a great choice for you to start your reading journey as it layouts the importance of a simple lifestyle that has kept Japanese people ‘alive’ even in old age.

2. Discover Your Destiny with the Monk Who Sold His Ferrari: The 7 Stages of Self-Awakening by Robin Sharma

Written by one of the most renowned leaders and performance experts, this book is a tale of rebirth in the same lifetime. The book is based on an insightful conversation between a present lawyer and an ex-lawyer. The ex-attorney decides to leave his prospering law career that revolves around power, money, and position.

The story is told from the perspective of the present lawyer who admires how fresh and young his idol looks when he comes back into his life after disappearing suddenly.

3. Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki

This book is a treat to begin your knowledge and build your financial wellness. The author shares the perspective of his father (the poor dad) and his friend’s father (the rich dad). The book is an eye-opener for people who think “money is the root cause of all evil”. No, it isn’t. It is the intention that matters.

This book will help you to get into the mindset of rich people and see the world from their perspective and the psychology they follow to use their existing money to make more money.

4. Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman’s Search for Everything Across Italy, India, and Indonesia by Elizabeth Gilbert

I read this book before I was a reader. It was during my graduation years for a case study project. The book is the story of a 30-year-old, celebrated, and successful writer who has everything she could ever want. But she goes through a midlife crisis that leads to a divorce, a crushing depression, and another failed love.

Thus, the writer takes a bold step to reboot her life by traveling through Italy, India, and Indonesia to restore her inner peace and finally find herself back.

5. The 5 AM Club: Own your morning. Elevate your life by Robin Sharma

Another masterpiece by Robin Sharma, this book is dedicated to the importance of waking up at the magical hour, as described by him. The 5 am concept was introduced over 20 years ago. It is based on the revolutionary morning routine that has helped the author’s clients live healthy, meaningful, and productive life.

The book is woven around two budding entrepreneurs who meet a business tycoon during their struggling phase. The tycoon helps them by sharing his “million-dollar morning routine”.

6. The Richest Man in Babylon by George Samuel Clayson

The old English language of this book might make it a little difficult for you, especially if you don’t have a literature background. Since I have one, I went ahead to read this. This book is said to be the bible of financial freedom. It shows some basic yet timeless principles of using and making money that can be used by anyone.

Through short storytelling, the author teaches simple money lessons that led to the secret of building wealth, secrets that have remained unchanged throughout history.

Conclusion:

All these books have added to my mindset as a freelance business owner. But they have also shown me to take a better approach toward life that goes beyond materialistic pleasures.

Thus, you can start your reading journey with any of these books.
