In the last post, I gave you a blueprint of the do’s and don’ts to improve your hair care routine. Now, let me just take you to your mother’s kitchen so that we can find some gems to elevate your hair game and help you achieve your desired hair goals.
Nature, mother Earth, has a solution to almost every problem. Previously, when there was no medical science and no doctors, it was the herbs and shrubs that kept life going and rather kept it smooth. While inventions and technology have made our lifestyle way too easy, it has also made it way too lazy.
Haircare and hair growth go hand-in-hand.
Everything you name is already available in the market. But, how do you trust them? How do you know if it is good for you and your health? Nothing we consume or use for us is 100% natural.
So, what do we do? What do I do? Well, I am here to reveal all my hair care secrets with every time I offer you a read. And, this time, I am about to reveal 3 ingredients that are as good for your hair as they are for your health.
1. Onion juice for hair growth
Sounds weird? At least it did to me when I first discovered the amazing effect it can have on your hair. Onion is not just for adding flavor to our food they can contribute amazingly to your hair growth if used correctly.
All you need to do is – take an onion or two as per your hair and cut it into pieces to blend it in a mixer with 2-3 spoon of water. Take out the onion mixture and filter it using a cotton cloth. And, voila, your very own onion juice is ready.

Apply it from your scalp to hair ends, massage it thoroughly for at least 5-7 minutes. Massaging your hair will propagate the juice to work on your scalp and stimulate your hair growth.
Now, braid your hair tightly in a normal three-strand braid if you have long hair or in a French braid if you have short hair.
Wash your hair normally with a shampoo or conditioner.
Tip: You can always combine the hair juice with your regular oil if the smell of onion bothers you.
2. Curd for shiny hair
I hate curd!!!!! I cannot stress it enough on how the smell of curd bothers my olfactory receptors and my taste buds. Yes, you heard it right. And well, yes, you can absolutely judge me on this, as you would please.
But, as much as I hate to consume curd, I love it equally on my hair. Although, I just pretend of blocking my sense to smell it when I apply it. But it has some startling effect in making my hair shiny, lustrous and dandruff free.
The process is a bit messy, so I would advise you to do it in front of your bathroom mirror if you don’t want to tune into your mother’s “you always end up increasing the work for me, let alone helping me in them’. Trust me, it is my every hair care day story, owing to my curiosity in home remedies and their experiments.
Curd for shiny and dandruff free hair
How to use it? – Take a bowl of curd according to your hair length. Add a spoonful of coconut oil and olive oil each. Divide your hair into four portions from the crown area. Take each portion and start applying the curd mixture from your hair ends to the roots one by one. Never do this from root to hair if you have long hair.
After you are done applying the mixture, massage your hair. Tie your hair in a loose high bun. Keep them so for about 45-60 minutes. And wash as normal.
Tip: Refrigerated curd will genuinely take you to heaven. I know that feeling so well to not share it with you.
3. Curry leaves oil for hair fall
Curry leaves are a great ingredient in Indian food to add all the extra flavor and texture to make the dish irresistible to our taste buds. But, are you aware of the remarkable benefits it has to control your hair fall and grey hair?
Curry leaves works to do wonder to your hair because of the presence of amino acids which strengthens your hair and amplifies your hair follicles to decrease the thinness of the hair. Also, they are a great source of powerful antioxidants.

The preparation of oil takes quite a time. Take double the amount of coconut oil you would usually use for your hair. Take 10-12 curry leaves, wash them and then boil them in the coconut oil. Let the oil boil till the leaves turn completely black.
Once done, leave the oil to cool down completely. Be careful, don’t burn your hands. Now, filter the oil using a cotton cloth and apply it on your hair as regular and wash them too.
Tip: You can prepare the oil in greater amounts and store it for up to 7-8 months.
Healthy hair is happy hair.
These are three major ingredients I keep switching on and off for my hair care routine. Also, each of my hair care hard work is directly proportional to the mess I create for my mother. She has given up on my immense love for my hair and my experimentations with home remedies. She is totally done with it, in every manner. She knows that nothing is going to stop me when it comes to the health and nourishment of my hair. And, I am not at all sorry for that.
